Getting more value from a specialist AI.

Most of the people who say AI is overhyped are using it the way they use Google. Type a vague question, glance at the first reply, paste it somewhere, decide it's mediocre. The tool gets blamed. The brief was the problem.

The output is only as good as the brief.
Nine out of ten complaints about generic AI output trace back to a generic ask. “Write me a hook for my reel” is not a brief. That is a wish. - What is the constraint?Word count, format, tone, deadline, channel. “80 words, WhatsApp broadcast, slightly informal, going out tonight.”
- What does success look like?“A hook that makes someone stop scrolling because they think it's about them, not about my brand.”
- What did you already try? Paste it. Tell the assistant what felt off. This one line saves you the most time.
Three sentences carrying those four answers will beat three paragraphs of context-free instruction every single time.
The first reply is a draft, not the answer.
The biggest mistake people make is treating reply number one as the deliverable. They read it, decide it's 70 percent there, manually edit the remaining 30 percent themselves, and call that AI workflow. You just did the assistant's job for it.
Push back instead. “This is too generic, the first line could be on any brand's page.” “Compress to 60 words.” “Rewrite the opening in the voice of Zerodha's blog, not a US SaaS landing page.” “Lose the word ‘empower’.” The second reply is almost always the one that ships.
Feed feedback back.
When something hits, say so, specifically. “That second hook worked because it named a feeling instead of a product. Give me three more in that pattern.” When something fails, say why. “The structure does not work because it sounds like a listicle.” The assistant learns your taste in the same chat much faster than it learns from generic praise like “good, do more”.
This is the part most people skip, and it is the part that compounds. By the fifth message in a session, a well-briefed specialist is writing closer to your voice than a freelancer you onboarded last month.
When to stop iterating.
If you have been going back and forth for 30 minutes and the output still feels wrong, the brief was wrong. Do not iterate harder. Stop, open a new chat, and write a sharper brief using what you have learned in the last 30 minutes about what you actually want. Five minutes of better briefing beats an hour of patching.
Same rule for direction changes. If halfway through you realise the target audience is different, do not try to twist the existing thread into shape. Start over. The first chat was research; the second is the deliverable.
Save the briefs that worked.

When a session produces something you actually shipped, paste the opening message into the doc with a one-line note about the result. Within a month you will have a personal library of starting points worth more than any prompt pack you can buy.
